The story of Native Americans spans thousands of years across the landscapes of North America. Today, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 American Community Survey, nearly 10.5 million people in the United States identify as American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) alone or in combination with another race, representing 3.1% of the total U.S. population.
